Computex 2008 AMD won't display RV770 at Computex Link
Posted on 05/09/2008 @ 03:20 PM

From what we gathered, AMD might not be showcasing their new RV770 cards at computex. No reasons were given for the decision.

We suspect that there might still be problems with chipset or drivers. Perhaps some companies will put up static displays of the cards with no running demos eventually.

Super Talent Launches MLC SATA-II SSDs for Notebooks Link

Super Talent Launches MLC SATA-II SSDs for Notebooks
High-Speed MasterDrive SSDs Offer Unprecedented Performance & Reliability

San Jose, California – May 6, 2008 – Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of Flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today launched a new line of MasterDrive solid state drives (SSDs) that are 100% interchangeable with hard disk drives (HDDs), but are faster, lighter, use less power and are far more rugged and reliable.

MasterDrive SSDs use NAND Flash rather than magnetic platters as the storage medium, giving them many advantages over HDDs. These drives have no moving parts, and therefore are completely silent, lighter weight and more reliable than HDDs. Moreover, they consume a fraction of the power of HDDs, meaning they produce less heat and offer longer battery life in mobile computing. MasterDrive SSDs use a SATA-II (3Gbps) interface to support high bandwidth and broad compatibility with motherboards, and have a standard 2.5-inch form factor. Proprietary wear-leveling algorithms extend the life of these SSDs.

“These new SSDs are a rugged, lightning fast, low power storage alternative for mobile professionals and enthusiasts. With such overwhelming benefits, MasterDrive SSDs are sure to revolutionize mobile storage”, commented Super Talent Marketing Director, Joe James.

MasterDrive DX drives employ SLC NAND Flash to support astounding sequential read and write speeds up to 120 and 70 MB/sec respectively, and are backed with a three year warranty. MasterDrive MX drives use MLC Flash to achieve maximum sequential read/write speeds of 120 and 40 MB/sec, and include a 1-year warranty. MasterDrive SSDs are available now from NewEgg and eWiz.

Super Talent also manufactures ultra-rugged DuraDrive SSDs in capacities up to 256GB. Super Talent will showcase it’s complete range of Flash and DRAM products at the Computex Convention in Taipei June 3-7 at Nangang Hall Area 4F #N518.

Computex 2008 Intel to focus on G45 Link
Posted on 05/05/2008 @ 04:17 PM

Another piece of news that we received is that Intel will focus on the Intel G45 chipset this year.

If you notice, AMD and NVIDIA are also doing something similar, having IGP products functioning as discrete chipsets.

This seems to be the trend these days. Intel G45 will come with a more powerful GPU integrated that supports DX10. The G45 will also support DP/HDMI/DVI/VGA output.

It is said that the quoted pricing for Intel G45 and P45 are the same. Thus, we should probably see more vendors selling the G45 variant, probably with 2 PCIe full length slots.

Who knows, maybe it will also support Hybrid CrossFire (with intel igp?) ? :)

Computex 2008 Intel P45 overclocks to 600MHz Link
Posted on 05/05/2008 @ 04:13 PM

According to some early test results of the Intel P45 chipset. This chipset inherits the goods of the P35. Other than enhancing on it's PCIe to PCI Gen 2 and support for up to 16GB of DDR2 or DDR3 memory, manufacturers are all coming out with very interesting designs. We have seen already seen some of these interesting designs last week.

The good news is that early tests with the P45 chipset reveals that it is another o/c champion. Some boards can easily do between 500-600MHz CPUCLK on air with a good o/c CPU.

All manufacturers are now fine tuning their BIOS to ensure the best stability and performance of their boards. We should be seeing a lot of them at Computex Taipei 2008.

Posted on 05/05/2008 @ 03:39 PM

ASRock introduces the first nForce 750A SLI mainboard. This mainboard supports the Socket AM2+ / AM2 processors: AMD PhenomTM FX / Phenom / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core / Athlon X2 Dual-Core / Athlon 64 / Sempron processor. It features alll Solid Capacitor design and supoprt Dual Channel DDR2 1066 with AM2+ CPU, and DDR2 800/667 with AM2 CPU, with 4 DIMM slots up to a maximum capacity up to 8GB.
This board comes with 2 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (green @ x16 mode, blue @ x8 mode). It can run in SLI mode in a Dual PCIe x8 configuration. Alternatively, it can run with one 8500 or below card to run in Hybrid SLI mode with the inbuilt IGP (which has no independent output).

Other features on this board includes 6 x Serial ATAII 3.0 Gb/s connectors, support RAID (RAID 0, 1, RAID 0+1, RAID 5, JBOD), NCQ, AHCI and Hot Plug functions, - 1 x eSATAII 3.0 Gb/s connector, Gigabit LAN 10/100/1000 Mb/s, 2 x IEEE 1394 headers (one port on back panel, one header on board). In addition, it has a 7.1 CH Windows® Vista™ Premium Level HD Audio with Content Protection, supports DAC with 110dB dynamic range (ALC890 Audio Codec), DTS (Digital Theater Systems).
In terms of expansion, the board comes with 1 x WiFi/E header. The backplate also has 1 x Coaxial SPDIF Out Port, 1 x Optical SPDIF Out Port, 1 x eSATAII port, 1 x RJ-45 LAN Port with LED, 1 x IEEE 1394 port, 6 x USB 2.0 Ports.

For those who wants to o/c the board, there is the ASRock OC Tuner. With the software IES ( Intelligent Energy Saver), you can also see the power savings in realtime.

IES is first implemented on ASRock K10N750SLI-WiFi. It is based on AMD PSI (Power State Indicator) spec, which is a function for AM2+ platform to improve energy efficiency by disabling extra phases when CPU is at light loading. The exclusively designed Intelligent Energy Saver can effectively increase Voltage Regulator Efficiency by 16% and decrease its Voltage Regulator power consumption by 48% without reducing CPU performance and reliability.

Computex 2008 Vendors might showcase AMD 790 GX with SB 700 temporarily Link
Posted on 05/04/2008 @ 01:39 AM

At Computex, most manufacturers might not be able to showcase their AMD 790GX mainboards as yet. This is largely due to the chipset delay of SB 750.

At the show, some might have actual demo of the AMD 790GX boards paired up wth SB700 as the south bridge.

The new south bridge SB 750 is said to support RAID 5 and solve some performance issues with Phenom. The SB 750 chipset won't be ready by Computex 2008 Exhibition. We predict that it should be available at end of June.
