AOPEN AX4R Plus Granite Bay Dual Channel DDR Board Review (1)
Bluetooth 11 Dec 2002

AOPEN AX4R Plus

AX4R plus is the AOPEN's Granite Bay E7205 solution targeted at higher educational institutes and small business engineers who primarily use workstation for scientific purpose. While most users thought that it can be preliminary used for the base board for a cheaper workstation solution, this board comes packed with innovative features to supplement this board. In fact, the gap between a workstation class board and a high end end user board is getting narrower.

AX4R Plus specifications and features also include 400/533MHz FSB, 6 PCI slots, 4 DIMM sockets totaling 4GB of on-board memory capacity, 10/100 LAN on-board, sound on-board. AOPEN has included some of their technologies onto the mainboard and they include SilentTek, EzRestore, EzWinFlash, DieHard BIOS, CD Jukebox etc.

AX4R plus also supports the newer Hyper threaded P4 3.06 processor thereby improving performance. It also has an AGP 8x slot and supports dual channel DDR266. On top of that, there is SATA interface for the future SATA HD (which will be available in the market in Jan 2003).

Although it is a workstation class board, it comes with some nice overclocking features for those who loves to overclock (I prefer stability). In the BIOS, you can tune the FSB at 1Mhz steppings, voltages can be adjusted too.
