Kingston HyperX 3500 KHX3500/512 (2)
Bluetooth 19 Dec 2002

Test Configuration

  • Epox 8RDA+ nForce2 mainboard
  • 1 x 512M Kingston HyperX KHX3500/512
  • ABIT Siluro GF4 Ti4200 OTES
  • AMD AXP2400+ running at various multiplierxfsb

Test results

Vcore : 1.85v, Vdimm: 2.9v, Vagp : 1.5v

We first tested at 217Mhz x 8 at CAS 2, 4-4-8. The system POSTED but it was extremely unstable resulting with a blue screen during benchmarking. We tried lowering the multiplier to 7x but the same problem persists even if we raised the voltage to the max Vcore of 1.9v from the BIOS.

Next, we reduced to CAS 2, 2-2-5, 9x210Mhz seems OK but very soon the system gave way and screens becomes garbled. We reduce T(RAS) to 6 (previously was 5). Same problems. We reduce it further to CAS 2, 6-3-3 and see what happens. The system is again unstable. Below are the various settings we tried. We ended up having a stable system that is able to run through all the benchmarks at 200Mhz x10(CAS 2, 2-2-5) : Stable

200Mhz x10(CAS 2, 2-2-5) : Stable
210Mhz x 9 (CAS 2, 2-2-5) : Unstable
210Mhz x 9 (CAS 2, 2-2-6) : Unstable
210Mhz x 9 (CAS 2, 3-3-6) : Unstable
217Mhz x 8 (CAS 2, 4-4-8) : Blue screen
217Mhz x 7 (CAS 2, 4-4-8) : Blue screen

The interesting fact is that this RAM is spec at DDR 434 but we are not even able to run 217Mhz at CAS 2, 4-4-8 which is the what it was spec at. Is this the problem of the RAM module or is it the mainboard? We run a check using a P4 1.8A + Shuttle AS45GTR board at cpu:mem = 1:2. We set the FSB to 108, which pushes the RAM to 216 or DDR432, CAS 2 Ultra, Fast, Turbo timings. All failed with blue screen.

We tested again using the Epox 8RDA+ with async ram timings set to 150%. We set the FSB to 145Mhz and RAM is running at 217Mhz (DDR434). Surprisingly we are able to push it all the way to 220Mhz (DDR440) without any problems. The ram timings used were CAS 2, 2-2-5 at the same voltages.

We ran a series of tests using Quake3 Demo001, Comanche 4 Demo, 3Dmark2001SE, SuperPI, SISoft Memory Benchmarks. Everything seems fine. We have attached some of these results here when we run it at 10x200 at CAS 2,2-2-5.
