Connectivity

The 7650 is the 4th (commercially available) mobile device from Nokia after the 6210 (with Connectivity Pack), 6310/i and the 8910 to supports Bluetooth. Bluetooth (BT) has been around for a very long time (at least on paper) and we are only starting to see some heavy onslaught of accessories recently. The lack of 'wires' promised by BT is certainly very appealing to me (I 've got messy tables and stuffs :) and even more so for the mobile warriors with their PDAs and laptops. Now for the bad news, the Nokia 7650 supports GOEP which includes the essential File Transfer Profile & Object Push Profile, DUN etc of BT, IT DOES NOT SUPPORT THE AUDIO PROFILE! What this means is that BT enabled earphone are definitely out! While this is not a big deal to me (I have no use for a handsfree anyway), for those that matters, it's back to the age of 'wired' headset.

In addition, the Nokia 7650 supports a 115 kbps IR port and an IR fax modem.

How to connect with Nokia PC Suite (via. 3Com BT)? This guide should be sufficient for those in need of divine guidance.

1.    Before installing the PC Suite, run 3Com Connection Manager. Click on Tools > COM ports and note down the Host serial port and client port. Exit 3Com Connection Manager. *I would recommend that you remove it from your Startup folder, so that it will not load by itself*

2.    Install Nokia PC Suite. After installation, you should see this icon called mRouter. Right-click on it and select Properties. Check the COM as noted down by you in step 1. If you get any eroor message, ignore it and keep checking it till it goes thru.

3.    Switch on BT in your 7650. Run 3Com Connection Manager and you should see this screen. Wait for 'Nokia 7650' to appear. Highlight it and click Connect.

4.    This will appear on your phone. Key 1111 or any other passwords.

5.    Do the same for the prompt on your PC. Key 1111 or any other passwords.

6.    You will then be asked "Accept connect ....?" Press Yes.

7.    The icon for mRouter will change to this and in 3Com Connection Manager, you must see the serial connection.

8.    Run Nokia PC Suite.

Note: Once you move away and the connection is broken, you must restart your PC and run 3Com Connection Manager again! Why? Well, mRouter doesn't refresh itself and has to be restarted for it to be connected again.
