Mitsubishi M320 Dual Band Phone (1)
Overclocker 13 Feb 2002

It is amazing how technology has changed in the past one year. From the black & white handset to colour handsets, from monotone to polyphonic. Mitsubishi M320 is the latest Mitsubishi phone targeted at the young professionals.

Furnished in the same car-like silver colour, this phone weighs only 95g, it supports Dual Band GSM900/1800. It comes with an integrated antenna and supports GPRS. This phone has one of the largest screen displays supporting 4096 colours. The large screen of 128 x 141 pixels is definitely a plus for those who loves to surf WAP sites using GPRS since you can view them in colour screen. Furthermore, you can customise your background wallpapers in GIF, PNG, JPG picture formats. A banner can also be placed to add a personal touch. On top of that, you can choose to transfer ringtones in .pmd format (three chord polyphonic) using IrDA or through WAP sites. The optional data cable is not on sale yet. Up to 60 polyphonic ringing tones can be stored.  There is also a Melody composer to compose your ringtones.

M320 has one of the best standby time. We have been using the M320 in our testing for the past one month and we find that it can last for almost 5 days if we use it sparingly, e.g. a 5 minutes call a day. Battery type : Li-Ion, Battery capacity : 900 mA/h. In fact, we are impressed that the phone actually allows us to set a timer where it will auto-on and auto-off. We set it to turn on at 9am in the morning and auto shut-off at 11pm. We were initially skeptical about it but so far after using it for 1 month, it works flawlessly. This definitely helps to conserve power consumption. for calls, there are Integrated vibrator and you set call alert type selection : ring, silent, vibrate, vibrate & ring, vibrate then ring

The phone book can store up to 255 entries. In terms of SMS, you can store up to 150 SMS messages (in/out). T9 input is available for you to quickly key in the SMS messages to be sent. You can also choose to send to a group of friends. My SIM card can store up to 10 SMS only. There are also call logs which shows the individual calls, total call time separately for incoming and outgoing calls. Most phones just lumps the total usage without separating them into incoming or outgoing call time usage. You can also use the voice-dial to call your family and friends.

This phone has pretty good voice quality. In our tests, we also tried the speakerphone mode, the speaker is loud and this is definitely a nice feature for those who are afraid health hazards of handphone usage. (SAR : 0.868 W/kg).

Other nice features include Games based on Infusion's Exen v2 platform, Sleeping mode (clock), One-touch business card exchange via infrared or SMS (Vcard format), Infrared link, Data / fax modem inside, Voice Memo (2 min), Organiser (Vcalendar format), Clock and Date,  Alarm with customisable ring tone, Calculator, Currency converter.
