PowerColor XR98T-D3 Radeon 9800XT Review (2)
Ken C 11th Nov 2003

Test Environment

  • Athlon 64 3200+
  • ASUS K8V Deluxe
  • 1 x 512M Corsair XMS3500C2 running CAS 2, 5-2-2
  • Powercolor XR98T-D3 Radeon 9800XT
  • Maxtor ATA133 HDD
  • Catalyst 3.9

Futuremark's 3DMark2001 is used and we used powerstrip to overclock the card. The surprise is that even without overclocking, we can reach a high of 20525 3Dmarks at default with board timings set to CAS 2, 5-2-2. During overclocking, we managed to push it up to 21598 (core: 457, mem: 420). That is an improvement of 5.22%.

It is also noticed that the core does not seem to like to overclock that well and at 460, you would see tearing on the display. It is easier to work on the RAM though.

We tested out the Overdrive function in the Catalyst 3.9 and noticed a slight increase in performance only. I think it is still better to overclock the card using powerstrip then to rely on the Overdrive function (which seems to be not functioning).
