Scythe Samurai SCSM-1000 Heatsink Review (1)
Bluetooth 4 Aug 2004

We are used to Taiwanese brands when pc parts are concerned. In fact, there are a number of overseas manufacturers that has interesting products. Today, we introduce you to a Japanese-made heatsink by Scythe Co., Ltd. Scythe is based at Akihabara, Japan. They started off as a distributor and manufacturer of PC DIY parts. They have made in roads into the silent PC market and had great success of the Kamakaze CPU cooler in the past year.

Scythe is kind enough to send us the Samurai heatsink. The word "Samurai" reminds me of those Japanese warriors with samurai swords moving swiftly without noise. I think Scythe probably named this model because of this reasons - Noiseless and efficient.

This model that we have is SCSM-1000 and it can fit onto Socket 370, Socket 478 (P4) and Athlon Socket 462, 754, 939 and 940 boards. It has a dimension of 80x80x25mm (fan) and combined dimensions of 98x84x33mm. It weighs 605g. It has a variable fan speed of 1300-3400rpm (with rheostat). Airflow is 13.6CFM (1300rpm) ~ 34CFM (3400rpm). The Fan noise level is 16dBA @ 1300rpm and 37dBA @3400rpm.

The Package

The package contains the heatsink, thermal paste, fan speed controller, instruction sheet, screws and installation brackets for Socket A/Socket 370 and Socket 478. You would have to use the long screws for the Socket 754/939/940 installation.
