SiS 755FX Socket 939 Ref Board with 2.2GHz CPU (7)
Bluetooth 25 May 2004

Benchmarks

The results from PCmark2002 benchmark indicates that the SIS 755FX performs better in most of the benchmarks. The most apparent is in the disk related benchmarks. This is again where SiS chipset excels since the old days of SIS 961 chipset.

Conclusion

The results shown in the various benchmarks are only indicative as the CPU used is not a retail processor. As we all know, the memory controller is not built into the CPU, this means that aggressive timings set within BIOS would not be stable.

In fact, in the Socket 754, some of the early boards and CPUs had problems running at CAS 2. The 2.2GHz CPU ES has no problems running at CAS 2, but it can't run as aggressive as the ones on Socket 754 which is a single channel chipset.

Driver updates would also improve general performance of AGP and IDE and we would have to wait till more retail boards are available and we will do a comprehensive test with detail description of the functionalities of the mainboard.

Overall, SiS 755FX seems to be a fast chipset due to its good south bridge implementation. As the memory controller is within the CPU, we won't expect the difference in AGP performance to be that much difference among all the various chipsets.
