Sony Ericsson Z800i 3G/GSM 900/1800/1900  Camera Phone Review (3)
Bluetooth 20 May 2005

Multimedia

The built in VGA camera comes with 1.3mpixel CMOS camera which can be used for video calls or photo taking. The picture size supported are built in. Anyway, the pictures taken are decent and you can take up to a resolution of 1280x10240 (Large), 640x480 (Medium), 160x120 (Small). There is a Night Mode and Effects allows you to take pictures (4x Digital Zoom is supported) with add on effects e.g. Black & White, Negative, Sephia, Solarise. You can also take pictures in Panorma mode. You can also add frames for creativity.  Although the Z800i comes with photo light, photos appear to be noisy with blue dots.

Videos can be recorded in Large (176x144) or Small (128x96). Shoot mode can be set for Picture messaging or for High Quality movie

Connectivity

Z800i supports bluetooth, infra red and USB connectivity which I can use to transfer images easily. Transferring of images, ringtones and Java apps are easy as you can choose to use the infra red, bluetooth, USB or via 3G/GPRS. The relevant file types are automatically dumped into the correct directories which you could access them via the file manager. The same applies to jar files. We tried to transfer a AAC file, it is recognised as M4A and it is thrown into the Others folder. Likewise, if you would like, you can use the Memory Duo for transferring files into/out of the phone.

Ringtones

Z800i has 72 channels polyphonic and MIDI playback sounds exceptionally good. The MP3 ringtones are slightly software than the Z1010. In fact, I find the volume on the video streaming to be way too low. Looks like a new firmware should be released to correct this.
