Background

With the AM2 boards rolling out, most readers would be interested to find out what sort of DDR2 modules should they buy for their systems. DDR2-800 modules seemed to be the selling point of most DRAM makes. Such modules are already available at a high price.

In some cases, when one is confused about which DDR2 modules to buy, one will go for the more expensive and those that are rated to perform , say DDR2-1200 if there are any. Well, that is one way of deciding your purchase. In fact, there are certain older modules that might be rated DDR2-533 that can equally perform at DDR2-800 but at a lower CAS rating.

So does CAS rating help when everyone is going for the 800 or even 1066 mark? In this article, we will investigate this.
