Introduction

If you have been following developments of the NV NF680i chipset, you would probably know that the boards currently on sale are actually manufactured by NVIDIA and branded and packaged for various manufacturers. That is why you see the same designs.

ASUS took the plunge and deliver the first own in house designed mainboard - Striker Extreme.

The Striker Extreme 4 basic commitments to R.O.G (Republic of Gamers) members. Striker Extreme provide a detailed BIOS option for enthusiast tweaking, 8-phase capless power to ensure the SLI performance reliability, and the unique gaming features, such as LCD poster, EL I/O, Onboard LED, Onboard button etc. The package also comes with software 3D game-Ghost Recon, 3dMark06 Advanced Edition, and a one-year license Kaspersky anti-virus software, it's a total gaming solution as we committed.

The striker extreme is Intel® Quad-core Processor Ready. This motherboard supports the latest Intel® Quad-core processors in LGA775 package. It's excellent for multi-tasking, multi-media and enthusiastic gamers with 1066/800 MHz FSB. This motherboard also supports the latest Intel® Core™2 processors in LGA775 package. With new Intel® Core™ microarchitecture technology and 1066 / 800 MHz FSB, Intel® Core™2 processor is one of the most powerful and energy efficient CPU in the world. The board supports DDR2-800 memory.

Based on the NVIDIA 680i chipset, NVIDIA nForce® 680i SLI™ , it supports NVIDIA® Scalable Link Interface (SLI™) technology that allows two graphics processing units (GPUs) in a single system.

The board also uses a 8 phase cap-less Power design demonstrates two hardcore commitments of ROG products: ultimate overclocking capability, and ultimate reliability. The 8-phase power design yields unparalleled superiority in the overclocking arena, while the EL cap-less design removes any worries of capacitor problems once and for all.

In the multimedia department, the board has something different from the rest of the manufacturers. The audio on board uses the ADI 1988b and comes with DTS Connect™. This feature is consists of two elements: DTS interactive and DTS NEO:PC. DTS interactive re-encodes your stereo or multi-channel sound into a DTS audio signal and send it out from your PC to any DTS enabled system. While DTS NEO:PC turns your stereo audio such as MP3, WMA, CD, and other sound format into a convincing multi-channel audio experience.

The board also supports External SATA II with hot plug function. There is also Dual RAID using the south bridge and SIl3132 controller. The south bridge incorporate six Serial ATA connectors with high performance RAID functions in RAID 0, 1, 5, 0+1, and JBOD. The Silicon Image 3132 controller provides another two external Serial ATA connectors for RAID 0, 1, and JBOD functions. This motherboard is the ideal solution to enhance hard disk performance and data back up protection without the cost of add-on cards.  There is also Dual Gigabit LAN and 1394a interface on board.

Some other interesting features that makes the board that stuns the user includes EL I/O, Onboard LED, LCD Poster to make it easy to install the system and detect problems with system errors.
