Introduction
ASRock ALiveNF5-eSATA2+ is the equivalent of the popular
ConRoeXFire-eSATA2 on the Intel platform. This new board uses a new chipset from
NVIDIA. We were not aware of this chipset until we saw this board. The chipset
is NF520.
NF520 is NVIDIA's new incarnation for cost down single chip
solution for the Am2 platform. It is quite confusing as what does the chipset
support. This chart might help to clarify the confusion. In fact it is the
little brother of the NF550 chipset.
The ALiveNF5-eSATA2+ supports the full range of AM2
processors including the FX, X2, 64, Sempron. It is AMD LIVE! Ready, supports
CnQ. It supports a HT of 1GHz and has overclocking features. The board supports
4 DIMM slots with up to a max of 16GB of DDRII-800/667/533.
In terms of functions, the board supports 7.1ch HDA
which i Windows Vista Premium Level certified. It also uses a RTL 8111B GbE.
In terms of connectivity, there are 4 x SATAII 3.0 Gb/s
connectors, support RAID (RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, RAID 5 and JBOD), NCQ, AHCI
and "Hot Plug" functions. There are also 2 x eSATAII 3.0 Gb/s connectors (shared
with 2 SATAII ports), support NCQ, AHCI and "Hot Plug" functions. The NF520 also
support 1 x ATA133 IDE connector (supports 2 x IDE devices). On board is the
IEEE 1394 controller by TI which supports 2 x 1394 headers which can be
connected thru a bracket. Free Bundle: USB+1394 bracket, providing 2 additional
USB 2.0 ports and 1 IEEE 1394 port. The board also comes with a 1 x HDMI_SPDIF
header for routing the HDA to your HDMI graphics card so that audio can be
channeled out to the LCD TV.
Cool features isn't it.
