E3C224 and PCI incompatibility
Hi
I purchased an ASRock E3C224 specifically because it had 2 PCI slots (who would know how difficult it turned out to be to find server motherboards with PCI slots)...
This setup was designed as a replacement of an existing machine: it has 2 PCI cards and 2 PCIe cards.
All those cards are DVB-T tuner cards (to record free to air television).
One of the card is a DVICO Dual Digital 4 cards, it's a PCI-32 card.
Whenever that card is plugged on the PC, some weird thing will happen:
If it boots, it's not recognised by linux (ubuntu 12.04) even tough that card is recognised by any < 4 years linux kernel.
Sometimes, it won't boot immediately, and very often you find that the EFI settings have been reset to factory default (which is easy to tell as all the fans runs at full speed).
If it does boot, usually, the IPMI KVM doesn't respond to key presses anymore (it does with a physical keyboard plugged to it)
As soon as you remove the card, the MB behaves properly once again.
The behaviour of the server once that particular PCI card is plugged in, is very peculiar: it is never the same, but you can tell something isn't quite right.
Is there any known compatibility issue with some PCI cards with this motherboard?
That particular PCI card works just fine with all other motherboards I've tested...
It's quite frustrating, I only purchased that board for its PCI slots and would have gotten a cheaper ones with just PCIe otherwise.
Thanks in advance

I would say it's a resource conflict. Try putting in the other available PCI slot and see what happens.

The other PCI slot is already taken by another card. I have swapped the card already.
The effect is the same whenever that card is inserted. Even if I only plug that card (and no others) no matter which port it is in.

Does the card have any jumpers on-board?

it has one jumper, one is to choose to be powered from the PCI slots, the other position to be powered from a side connector (which I do not have a plug for)
