Default 4Core-Dual VSTA 775 Problems with DDR2

Hi there, I have built a system with this motherboard, as well as an Intel E6600 cpu, and 2x1GB sticks of DDR2.

Every since I've built it, and installed Windows XP numerous times on different hard drives as a test, I've been getting BSOD crashes on a regular basis, but only with DDR2 fitted. With DDR memory it's fine.

I've made sure the bios is up-to-date, 1.5, and tried 3 lots of memory, varying from generic to Kingston Value RAM, but all in this configuration: DDR2 533 2x1GB sticks. Every time I fit DDR2 it starts crashing again. I've got a 530W power supply that should be up to the job.

I was thinking the DDR2 slots might be faulty, so was about to return the board, but thought there may be some memory timing settings I need to change in the bios, they're all on auto at the moment.

I'm new to memory timings, but someone on usenet suggested:

"Go into the chipset configuration page of the BIOS, make sure that
command rate is set to 2T, and set "Flexibility Option" to enabled, keep
everything else on auto. This should slacken the memory timings which
will hopefully work around the problem.

If that doesn't work, you can try setting the timings manually:

DRAM Frequency: 533
DRAM CAS# Latency: 5
DRAM Bank Interleave: Disabled
Precharge to Active: 5T
Active to Precharge: 15T
Active to CMD: 5T"

I've done the first stage of this and seeing if it's stable over the next few days, but I've also have this forum recommended highly from another usenet user, so thought I'd ask here as well.

Is the above good advice? They suggested this motherboard can be a bit picky with DDR2 memory detection.

Cheers,

Andy

Default

Always clear the cmos when switching memory types.
the suggested timings should work on the board.
Also raise the DDR voltage if any. by 0.1v
