Default B85M-ITX & SATA port multipliers?

I had thought that port multiplier support wasn't an issue any more, at least with common SATA chipsets. However, I've not had any luck getting either the eSATA port or the internal SATA ports on my B85M-ITX to detect the port multiplier in a Mediasonic enclosure that has been working fine on another ASRock board for years. ASRock support responded with a terse "this board does not support port multipliers." Is this a restriction of the chipset? I've not had any luck finding any discussion of recent Intel chipsets and their support (or lack thereof) for port multipliers.

Any more info on this? I had no luck getting the Highpoint Rocket 640L 4xSATA PCIe card recognised on the ASRock B85M-ITX. Card and MB brand new - card works fine in older ASUS P7P55D. Some incompatibility with UEFI on the ASRock?

It did not. In the B85M-ITX it did nothing. In the P7P55D it pretty much behaved as advertised on the box.

Looks it like it only has one PCIe slot.

Correct. You think that's significant?

If it is UEFI, try disabling CSM with another card installed, then shutdown and try the new card.

Since I wasn't able to get any of the on board ports to work, I got a random Silicon Image card. It works fine, but I had to change something about the setup for the PCIe card in the UEFI...I think I needed to set the PCIe slot to V1 compatibility rather than auto.
