DFI NB70-SC i845D
mainboard
As we all know, AMD has been eating into Intel's market share for the past 1 yr. The Pentium 4 + RAMBUS solution was not too successful as the price of RAMBUS was expensive. As prices are going down, Intel released i845 chipset which bundle P4 with SDRAM. It did bring down the price of Pentium 4 as a whole but degrades the performance of a Pentium 4. As DDR is cheaper than RAMBUS and offers performance that is higher than SDRAM, this is the only logical step which Intel will go into. The NB70-SC comes in a new classy packaging. The package comes with two CDROMs, one is the Mainboard utility which contains the Intel IDE drivers and the next is the Intel Application Accelerator.
DFI NB70-SC is one of the first manufacturers to send me their Intel P4 DDR solution based on the i845D chipset. In our previous tests of DFI products, we found them to be rock stable and we in fact built a number of Socket 370 systems for our friends and there were no issues. Well, we shall take a look at how this NB70 will perform when we compare it to other P4 solutions using various chipsets from Intel (i850,i845), SiS (SiS645), ALi (ALiALADDiNP4) and VIA (P4X266) in the next few pages. |
