Soltek SL-75KV2-X Part 1 Introduction Soltek, one of the leading brands in overclocking has been very successful in capturing the majority of the marketshare in Hongkong as the low cost overclocker's brand. Just in case you have not heard of Soltek, you might have heard of MagicPro. Magicpro boards are the OEM of Soltek. If you have been to Hong Kong, you would be wondering where are the big brand names?? You would see MagicPro boards in most of the computer shopping complexes in Hong Kong. First Impressions We reviewed Soltek boards before and I am quite impressed with their persistence to innovate and efficient to bring out the latest technology in the industry. I am also surprised that it is one of the first boards to support the VIA 686B South Bridge which supports ATA-100 specification. As we all know, SL-75KV2-X is the revision 2 of the SL-75KV board that Soltek releases in June 2000. With the general trend towards DIY, Soltek released this version 2 of the SL-75KV2 which incorporates the mutliplier, VCore and Vi/o adjustments on board for the overclockers. Other than that, the package also comes with the best of the breed software from Symantec. This time round, they not only bundle Norton Anti Virus 2000 and Ghost, Soltek also throw in Winfax, a software that comes handy for small business users to fax direct from desktop thru Internet or modem. It comes at the right time since Windows Me does not come with Fax support. The board has a COM connector to connect to an external COM port (COM2), this reminds me of the old 486 boards ;) In the package, you can also find a thermistor which you could use to real time monitor the temperature of your other devices on your mainboard. |
