Dell AXIM Advance PocketPC (3)
Tom 13 Aug 2003

Does size really matters?

In a way, it does. No one like a big bulky piece of plastic and I am no exception. I have already mentioned the dimensions of the AXIM on the first page and many of you would have dismissed it outright for it isn't the most compact PDA around. Don't be fooled though, the AXIM is in no way huge which seems to be the impression everyone have. I don't have really big hands and as you should have noticed from the photo on the first page it fits just fine in my palm. To give you an idea of the size I have taken 2 photos of the AXIM next to my heavily used and abused Nokia 3390.

It is hard to tell from the picture but the AXIM isn't even twice as wide as the 3390. If I set the phone on to it almost cover the whole navigation button.

Again it isn't so easy to tell but the 3390 is actually a few mm thicker then the Axim.

Conclusion

As a first time PDA owner I found the AXIM to be all I expected it to be and more. I haven't experience any system freezes or shutdowns and it appears to be pretty bug-free which is a plus point. Those of you who have been using PDA for awhile may not care for the AXIM as it isn't really like any other PDA I have checked out. If you are looking for your first PDA and don't want to spend a fortune then this unit should at least make it on your list of devices to consider. DELL managed to put everything a PDA user would want into a affordable package and I must really salute their vision. I am one satisfied customer. My one and only complaint is that D-pad is very wobbly which takes a little getting use to. It could be a little firmer though ...
