WinFast 755FXK8AA-8EKRS SiS 755FX Mainboard Review 7/7
Conclusion WinFast 755FXK8AA is the first retail board based on the SiS 755FX for the AMD Athlon 64 Socket 939 processor. This board has proven to be very stable even at aggressive ram timings. I am glad that Foxconn has listened and improved their design with 3 phase and branded capacitors. The board is well laid and it is one of the mid range board that implements 1394 which most manufacturers don't. In the past, they lacked BIOS options. I am surprised that WinFast implements quite a number of important options which are opened for users to tweak. They include options of ASync 166,133,100 operation. HTT width can be set to operate in 8 or 16 bits. HTT freq can be set to 1GHz, 800MHz, 600Mhz, 400 MHz. FSB range is up to 350MHz. Vcore adjustments and Multiplier control is also available. The only important feature that is lacking is the Vdimm and VAGP adjustments. In general, the performance is above average in most benchmarks to all other chipsets. The results from PCMark2004 is amazing as it even beat a NF4-Ultra running 1GB of RAM with NCQ HDD. On the issue of PCI/AGP Fix, I have tested the board and it seems to hit the wall at 225MHz. I can get it stable at 11 x 225 (2.47G) running at CAS 2.5,6-3-3 Maxmemclk = 166. Installation is straightforward and we didn't have any major issues setting up the system. On top of hardware, the software included - SuperStep enables you to to overclock FSB within Windows. Super BIOS protect gives you 2 shields against BIOS corruption due to CIH type of virus. SuperRecovery (built in BIOS hidden partition) can protect and recover HDD data. In terms of features, this board sports 8 USB 2.0 ports (4 at the back, 4 via extensions), 7.1ch audio by Realtek ALC850. Gigabit Ethernet, 1394. It also comes with 2+2 SATA ports for SATA RAID supported by SIS 964 and Sil3112 chip respectively. Overall, I would say that this board has improved from its previous design which seemed to be more for OEMs. The features are rich and would be a good board to own.
