Conclusion (Pricing)
Powercolor is again one of the first to market the X1600 Pro AGP edition. In our tests, we find that the performance lacks behind the X1600XT. That is normal as the core/mem clk and the interfaces are quite different. Although we find the performance to be fair, a X1600 XT AGP version would definitely be better if you intend to play with the newer games. In terms of packaging, the Powercolor X1800 GTO as usual, it includes Cyberlink DVD playback software and video cables are provided. No games are included in the package. This will probably reduce the overall cost and benefits the consumers. Overclocking wise, this card seems to have a good core. From a default of 500MHz, we can go up to 630MHz. It seems that the memory is the bottleneck which limited the overclocking to 45MHz (from 405->450). In our test, the card ran smoothly with no major issues encountered. The card ran well on the ULI 1695 board. One advantage of ATI X1k series of card is its support of the AVIVO Video Converter Engine which offloads your CPU and speeds up compression of videos into other formats. In conclusion, it is a card that you should consider if you intend to prolong the live of your existing AGP board. Priced at USD100, it may be a good alternative, otherwise, the PCIe version X1600 XT would be a better consideration.
