Test Configuration

  • Chaintech 7NJS Zenith nForce2 mainboard
  • 1 x 512M Corsair XMS3500 module
  • ABIT Siluro GF4 Ti4200 OTES
  • AMD AXP2400+ running at 7.5 x 217
  • Ram timings - CAS 2, 2-2-5
  • DDR Voltage - 2.7v

Test results

It is important to understand this test is meant for testing the how far the memory can do and not really an overclocking test. As the Chaintech 7NJS does not include a multiplier in the BIOS, it was defaulted to 7.5x (when L3 last bridge is connected or wiring the two VSS and GND pins). We run the test in Async DDR400 mode by setting the FSB at 145mhz FSB. Thus memory is at 217Mhz.

We ran a series of tests using Quake3 Demo001, Comanche 4 Demo, 3Dmark2001SE, SuperPI, SISoft Memory Benchmarks. Everything seems fine. We have attached some of these results here when we run it at 7.5x217 at CAS 2,2-2-4.

Q3 Demo001 (1024x768x32) : 192.6fps

Comanche 4 demo : 27.6fps

3DMark2001 : 9489

SuperPI : 1'30"

Memory Benchmarks : 2097/1854

Well, Corsair XMS3500 does live up to its name. The ram module is able to run at a high of 217Mhz (DDR 434) as advertised even at CAS 2, 2-2-5. In fact, in our tests, we try to go up to 225mhz and it POSTed but it lacks stability even if we add more voltages to it. In conclusion, Corsair XMS3500 is a piece of gem for those who love to overclock and you can be rest assured that it does live up to its specifications.
