Profiles/Favourites/Camera/Images

The Profiles' setting allows you to customize the ringtone, ring volume, message alert etc for up to 5 preset groups. For example, you create one when you are in the cinema (no ringing alert, only vibrating alert) or another with loud ringing volume when visiting the market. Forget about RTTTL ringtones, using midi, wav or amr format is now a reality with the Nokia 7650. The phone sounds like a radio now with support for 24 poly ringtone and even beats the Samsung T100 hands down (which for awhile ranks high for nice sounds). Yes, the very same midi or wav can be use as your incoming message alert too.

Favourites is a storage space for shortcuts to your sound clips, pictures or bookmarks. You can easily access the favourites folder if you placed it under the programmable shortcut on the standby screen. The default Notes, Inbox and Calendar shortcuts CANNOT be removed.

Being the first mobile device in the world with an integrated Camera is certainly no mean feat. The thought of a slow refresh screen is a constant thorn in the sides just like the MCA-20 on the SE T68i. To my relief, the Nokia 7650 has a 'real' viewfinder for a start! Coupled with a 4096 colors screen, it's beginning to look like a budget digital camera!

The Nokia 7650 has 3 shooting modes. The first is the Standard 640x480 mode. The second is a dedicated Portrait 80x96 mode. The portrait mode is highly recommended if you need to have a thumbnail shot for your contact. The last is a unique but hardly usable Night mode. In this setting, the camera has a longer exposure time in order to capture more details so you will need a very steady pair of hands. For every shooting mode, you can preset the picture quality of Basic, Normal and High.

All pictures (via. the built-in camera or files transfer) will be stored under Images. This is what I call a 'real' Photo Album! True to life colors and a bigger screen to boot. The name, time & date of each picture in the folder is shown beside each entry. As always, pressing the 'Options' key gives you the picture format, resolution and file size of that particular file.

In viewing mode, you can zoom in on a picture (range from 50% - 800%) and by moving the joystick, you navigate up/down/left/right around the picture to view it up-close just like a digital camera! You can choose to rotate, rename or send the picture via. the usual IR, BT, MMS or email and viewing the selected photo in full-screen.

The picture quality is acceptable but as you can see below, it falls way short of being an actual DC replacement. T68i w/ MCA-20 and the Sony F505 2.1 mega included for comparison.
