Ennyah Digisound II DS601 6-in-1 MP3 player (4)
Bluetooth 4 Sept 2003

Conclusion

The Ennyah Digisound II DS601 6-in-1 MP3 player is really a nice piece of gadget to have as it is light and is feature rich. From the PC point of view, this is the first MP3 player which can be upgradable via firmware upgrade via USB. This is good in the sense that possible future formats can be supported via a firmware upgrade.

As this device supports both MP3 and WMA format, it is easy to rip your favourite CD into WMA format since Windows Mediaplayer is readily available on WIN XP. Furthermore, I personally find that the WMA sounds clearer than other formats. You can also preset certain time to record your favourite FM radio broadcasts.

I find this device very useful for keeping and transferring my binary files like flash roms used for my motherboards and also some of my documents like Powerpoint, drivers.

From my experience of this gadget, the menu button seems a bit difficult to select the various mode of operations. This is because the joystick like (for forward and rewind of audio) can be moved from left to right. In order to select the various modes, you have to press it down when it is in the neutral position. It would be better if the two operations are separated. Perhaps it could be changed to share it with the A-B button.

The position of the earphone jack is also a bit awkward. It should be place on top instead of on the side. There is also no settings available to set the recording sampling rate for the FM audio. It uses IMA ADPCM 32Kbps , 8KHz , 4bit , best quality sound can record 600 mins (recording file is .wav format).  Up to 10 hours of recording time can be achieved.

Overall, the Ennyah Digisound II DS601 6-in-1 MP3 player is an interesting product to have. Improvements could be made perhaps through changeable face plates and improve a bit on the robustness of the operating buttons.
