The Black ICEMAT Review (1)
Tim B July 2003

A rather interesting product has come my way, yes it is a mouse mat, but this one is rather more special than your typical findings. This Icemat as they having called it is made of glass, it has a specially designed surface developed and tested by gamers for the best accuracy and precision ensuring best grip of the mouse ball. The packaging is quite impressive, it comes packed within polystyrene layers and a good solid box. This is to ensure safe transit, after all it is made of glass. Initially sceptical of just a new mouse mat I was very pleasantly surprised at just how good it looks, and prompted several comments from friends who noticed it on my desktop.

Pad Surfers

Included in the package are pad surfers, these are a small strip of Teflon tape to add to the bottom of your existing mouse feet to ensure an even smoother surface to move on, this helps reduce the quiet noise created by the movement of the mouse. Application is relatively simple and just requires cutting them to fit your current rubber mouse feet - ensuring that its slightly larger so that the edges can be pushed down using your nail to prevent dirt building up.

There is a small logo printed underneath the glass to prevent it rubbing off and gives it a cool frosted look. It uses polyurethane feet underneath to grip the surface without sliding. The size of the Icemat is fairly large and measures at 250x210x6.2mm but allows for a large range of movement and reduces the risk of falling off the edge during a frantic game session. The specially designed surface is formed with acid and the edges are formed in a CNC machine.
