The Black ICEMAT Review (2)
Tim B July 2003

The whole Icemat,

To give some idea of the size and scale,

Below is the logo printed on the underside of the glass with a cool frosted look, according to their website (www.icemat.com) they can also do custom designs for those that may wish to give a personalised present or a customised mouse mat.

Conclusion:

Throughout testing I have been very impressed with the performance of this Icemat, most noticeable its consistency. It has continued to give accurate precision and no jerkiness. This is seen with other cheaper flexible mouse mats, due to the build up of dirt and grime. It provides a good hard flat surface for your mouse, the feet underneath and its self weight do a good job of ensuring there is no sliding and the Teflon pad surfers for the mouse give a nearly friction free surface. The only small drawback I found is the slight noise associated with movement of the mouse, but this is practically removed with the application of the Teflon pad surfers. It sounds similar to running your finger over a plastic surface, although this was quite bearable and wasn't really noticeable or annoying during usage.

The colouring is cool and would definitely look the part if you have a black themed computer setup. Saying that however, they do also offer a white Icemat and other custom designs if your tastes are more specific. The Icemat appears to be very strong and handles all sorts of normal everyday knocks and the surface does not appear to mark or chip easily, but of course should be treated with some care. Overall I really liked this Icemat and is a must for keen gamers and anyone else who wants to ensure good accurate mouse performance, and has become a firm fixture on my desktop. It's surprising how much a good surface for your mouse is taken for granted and this does an exemplary job of giving smooth control over your PC.
