Overclocker 19th Nov 2003

Office 2003 is a milestone for Microsoft as it is the first time Microsoft launches a suite of applications that binds together for better productivity. In the past, we always thought Office 2003 only consists of Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Outlook etc. In fact, the Office suite has grown much bigger than that. Office 2003 series consists of more and they include Access, Excel, FrontPage, InfoPath, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, Visio
and Word.

The Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003 caters to different sectors of users and there are various versions e.g. Student and Teacher Edition, Standard Edition, Small Business Edition and the Professional Edition which includes additional applications - Business Contact Manager for Outlook, Publisher, Access. You can also exchange data with other systems using XML which Office supports. The professional edition also include a new IRM technology which controls information sharing rules.

Some of the more noticeable changes include the new Microsoft Office One Note is another application which came bundled with the Office 2003 box. The OneNote is a new application and allows users to capture text, handwriting, audio, photos, graphics just like on a drawing board. It can be used for sharing notes.

Next is the new layout MS Outlook 2003. Mail is becoming an important feature where business is involved. The problem now lies with spams coming into the mailbox everyday and this can be very annoying and it greatly reduces productivity. Outlook 2003 comes built with a spamcop which you could adjust the settings similarly to the web based Hotmail. Now I no longer have to bother with those nonsense coming straight into my INBOX. Rather they're re-directed into a special folder which you can monitor before deleting them off. There are other features which we will talk a bit more in details on the next page.
