HD-Tach 2.61

HD-Tach measures the throughput from the outer to the inner ring of the HD. Although real applications don't read/write in a sequential manner, this benchmark does give us some indications on the HD's parameters.

HD-Tach also show the Read Speed, Average Speed and CPU Utilisation. From the graphs, we can also see the troughs on the graphs during the read access. Too much of that isn't good.

Firstly the Random Access time 12.8ms vs 12.9ms. Not much of a difference. The interesting result is the Read Burst Speed which scores only 60.8mbps on the Promise controller compared to > 80mbps on the SiliconImage. CPU utilisation is higher on the Promise than the Silicon Image controller. From the charts, it does seem that the Siliconimage Controller chipset is slightly better in that aspect.
