This new technology avoids many of the out-of-sync audio, jittery images, low frame rates and possible packet transfer errors. With this new technology, it makes single channel as good as a dual channel design.

This SiS 648FX ref board comes with SiS180 controller. The SiS180 Serial ATA Host controller support two Independent Ports of Serial ATA 150, support Dual IDE Channels with Parallel ATA 133/100/66, PCI Rev 2.3, Software RAID Function - RAID0, RAID1, RAID0+1 and JBOD Function.

The SiS 180 controller can be set to work in two modes : Compatibility Mode and Native mode

In Compatibility mode, With Win98/WinMe OS Default IDE driver

Option 1: Disable 2 PATA Controller in 963L
and use 2S1P in 180 (Max. 4 devices)

Option 2: Disable 2S1P controller in 180 and
use 2 PATA controller in 963L
(Max. 4 devices)

In Native Mode, Native mode support OS
- Both 2 PATA controllers in 963L and
2S1P controllers in 180 can be enabled
• Maximum Support 8 IDE devices
• Native mode support OS is Win2K/WinXP and
Windows.Net Server

The best is native mode since you can hook up to 4 IDE devices to the PATA interface supported by SiS 963L. You can also hook up 2 SATA and 2 HD to the IDE3 and SATA ports (both supported by the SiS 180 chipset). This means that a maximum of 2 SATA and 6 HDD drives can be connected to the board. The interesting thing is that Software RAID function allows you to mix and match SATA and PATA in a RAID 0,1,0+1, JBOD array.
