The Battle For Middle-Ground - Nokia 7250 vs. SE T610

Sony Ericsson T610

Who can forget the one that started it all ... the Ericsson T68m. The world's first color screen mobile phone. I remembered the day I held it in my hands like a golden nugget. Bluetooth, MMS, a 256 color screen, GPRS, WAP 2.0 browser etc, all these cramped into a small compact body. Near perfect. But like I mentioned in my past reviews, the 256 color screen is fast becoming a dinosaur in this age of 4096 or 65,000 colors. No matter, the fact is that the T68m/T68i raised the bar so much (from a technological point of view) that the eventual successor is expected to surpass the legend with ease.

The SE T610 is a worthy replacement, to say the least. The layout of the buttons, numeric keypad and joystick is uncannily similar to the T68m/T68i. Adding a touch of class, the SE T610 has a metal body coupled with beautiful glossy enamel coated buttons and borders. Simple lines with a retro-look .. it is eye-catching but not overbearing. The phone felt substantial. Solidly built. This is possibly the best workmanship on a SE phone ever.

The T68m/i menu on a makeover. The T68i looks fat and 'childish' by comparison.

The 65K colors STN screen. Nicely lighted keypad on the T610.

Recessed camera lens on back. Classy enamel coated border with metal body shell.

Browser shortcut button on one side with the camera and volume control on the other.
