ASrock K7S41 (SiS 741) Review (3)

Benchmarking

Before we benchmark, we document the FSB the board is running at. The FSB of the this board was running at 202.00 by BIOS. We change it and set it to 200 manually via BIOS and WCPUID registers 199.99 or 200.00. We used an AMD AXP 3200+ running 200/200.

In the SiSoft Sandra Memory benchmark tests using a single 512M Corsair XMS3500C2 running at CAS 2, 6-2-2 as we the system can't POST when we set it to 2-5-2-2. The Memory Benchmark scores are 2115/2235 when we used the integrated video and we get 2262/2409 when we pair it up with an external VGA card - Tyan Radeon 9700Pro.

Seriously, when I saw the results, I was a bit disappointed by the low readings. The weird thing is that the when we use an external VGA card, the memory performance is far behind that what I can get from K7S8X-E (E+). This is really strange. I made a check with ASrock and they said that it is the chipset's limitation - when paired up with an external VGA card, the memory bandwidth is somewhat reserved and can't be released. I hope it can be fixed via BIOS.
