Nebula Electronics DigiTV USB (4)

Screen shots.

Currently, the broadcasts are not in High Definition. All broadcasts are in SD. Although it is in SD, it is still far superior compared to the analog broadcasts that I receive via cable. The following are broadcasts from Singapore's Mediacorp test broadcast for Ch 5, 8, TV Mobile.

Conclusion

DigiTV USB is definitely an interesting product that allows one to receive Digital broadcasts using conventional antenna without distortion and ghosting of images. In our testing, we first didn't get it to work as we were hooked to a USB 1.1 port of my notebook. Once i got it to work in USB 2.0, everything is perfect.

In my tests, I also tested the DigiTV server mode, I was able to stream the video across a 10MBps LAN and the other machine is also able to tune into the broadcasts without any problem.

I am very impressed with the image quality as it is played back on my Desknote LCD. The only thing is that the device does not provide a S-Video out for direct output. That means if you want to, you would have to output your video card's output to TV separately.

Recording of programmes is very straightforward. The only problem is that everything is recorded in MPEG-II. Be ready to have lots of disk space to record your favourite TV programme. I hope to see some compression modes available, perhaps enable direct recording into XViD format to conserve disk space.
