Sony Ericsson K700i Triband Camera Phone Review (3)
MatthewF 25 Aug 2004

From the desktop we are presented with the usual SE desktop interface of icons, although they are now redesigned, more ‘animated’-looking, higher resolution, and when you move from one to the other there’s a ‘spotlight’ that follows you through the icons. As the cursor moves over an icon, the icon grows in size, and then shrinks again… you can see it in the videos. So lets look briefly at all the main menus.

WAP (whatever your service provider calls it) - connects straight to Internet.

Internet Services- A Sony Ericsson page for Search, Picture & Video Gallery.

Entertainment- Games, MusicDJ (string together melodies for MIDI ring), Sound recorder

Camera- change resolutions (one of which is 1280x960, achieved through automatic interpolation of vga photo), turn on flash, night mode, timer, filters (panorama, black/white, sepia, negative, solarize). Activate video mode, which can take size-limited clips, or unlimited (records until you run out of memory!).

Messaging- Write New (then choose MMS or SMS), view your Inbox, receive email.

Radio- Activate the radio. Thing about the radio is that headset must be plugged in, as it serves as the antenna (see the video!). Stations can be saved to memory.

File Manager- View and manage pictures, sounds, videos, themes, games, apps.

Phonebook- The new SE interface brings tabs to the phonebook. A page for their phone numbers, an email and web tab, a page for caller ID picture and ringtone and voice command tags, an address page, and an ‘Info’ tab (I store directions to houses of my PC customers here J)

Media Player- This interface is used to play back audio files, and can be minimized to the desktop so you can perform other functions while listening to music, either through external speaker or headphones. The media player will play MP3 as well as MP4 files, however MP4s cannot be set as ringtones. There is also an equalizer to fine-tune the sound output to your liking.

Connectivity- The standard SE array of Bluetooth settings, Infrared, sync settings, networks, Internet settings, settings for streaming content, as well as Java.

Organizer- Adds functions of a calendar, task manager, notes (which can be posted to the standby screen), alarms, timer, calc, stopwatch, and a password-protected memo function.

Settings- The last menu again features the tabbed interface and is divided into: General, Sounds & Alerts, Display, and Calls.
