ULi M1573 South Bridge with HD Azalia Audio and NCQ SATA Preview 1/2
Bluetooth / Grumpy 6 Dec 2004

ULi M1573 Reference Board

Recently, ULi has introduced the M1573 Southbridge Chip, intended to be used with AMD64 PCI-E Motherboards. As you guys know, the ATi RS480 chipset has been making waves recently but the SB400 south bridge seems to lack a bit of features. With ULi M1573 PCI-E based South Bridge, the RS480 marries the power of the south bridge to deliver first class performance and functionalities comparable to the top notch PCI-E chipsets out there.

The M1573 integrates a High Definition (HD) Audio/AC'97 Host Controller, 2-channel dedicated Ultra-66/100/133 IDE Master controller, SATA Host Controller (4 SATA ports that can support SATA RAID 0,1,0+1) supporting Native Command Queue, USB 2.0/1.1 Host controllers, IO APIC controller, as well as 1/10/100 Mb/s Fast Ethernet MAC layer and PCI Express interface.

Of most interest in the HD Audio feature, which is an Intel Azalia Compliant Audio Solution. Azalia is the next generation of onboard audio, and is very advanced. Essentially, it provides superior Audio Onboard, negating the need for an expensive 3rd party audio card.

On this reference board, it comes with a detachable Audio Codec card. It shows that the south bridge can be paired with HD compliant codecs from different vendors. The one that is onboard is using the Realtek ALC880.

As seen from this reference Motherboard, the ULi 1573 is paired with an ATi RS480 PCI-E Northbridge, giving PCI-Express with excellent onboard features.
