Siemens SF65 Dual band GSM 900/1800 1.3 mpixel Camera Phone Review (2)
Bluetooth 25 Feb 2004

Pricing Info US UK

Interface and Functionality

A 5 way navigation button is located at the centre of the phone for instant access to the various functions of the phone. The buttons are configurable for instant access to commonly used functions.

The 9-icon user interface is very similar to the SL65 phone.  There are various access options : Phonebook, Call Records, Surf&Fun, Camera, Messages, Organiser, Extras, My Stuff and Setup which you can access using the joystick.

In Camera mode, the side buttons are there for your maneuver through the various options available for the photo taking. e.g. self-timer, resolution etc. One thing nice about SF65 is that you can use this phone in camera phone without the need to insert a SIM Card!

Multimedia

The built in CMOS camera can take shots at various resolutions. There is also a burst mode for 6 consecutive shots at one go. Colour mode wise you have the normal, back&white, Sepia, negative, Embossed and Edge for the add-on special effects to your photo shots. You can also edit the photos using different frames

Connectivity

This phone has ~18MB of internal memory for you to keep all your videos, pictures, midi, wav ringtones. There is no expansion slots for external storage. Bluetooth is not available. The only ways to transfer ringtones or pictures is via Infra Red, Email (GPRS). One thing I like about Siemens phone is that there is no restriction on transferring Java applications and you do not need special software to send/recv files. You can send / recv any file type you like and they will be stored into the Data Inbox which you can send to others via MMS, IrDA, email.

Ringtones

SF65 comes with a very loud earpiece and it is also used as a speaker phone and playback of ringtones. The file format supported as we can see are MIDI and SRT. It is a pity that the phone does not support AAC, MP3 ringtone. If you like, you can send WAV files into the phone via Infra or any other means and set it as the default ringtone. You will be shocked by the loudness of the ringtone whether it is polyphonic MIDI or WAV file. You can use the mono tones if you wish.
