XGI Volari 8300 7/7
Bluetooth 8 Nov 2005

Performance

Using a FX-53 processor with 1GB of RAM running on a Foxconn GF6150  board, we benchmark it against the internal graphics of 6150. It is also compared to a ATI RS482 internal graphics. As we can see, the results of running DOOM 3 test give us almost equivalent results compared to the Integrated graphics core of NVidia's GF6150 and ATi RS482.

Conclusion

This article gives you an idea where the XGI Volari 8300 targets. From the information gathered, it would be an entry level card that puts emphasis on the video quality of DVD playback.

As for its performance, it is faster than the ATi RS482 (X300) and NVidia GF6150 (6200). With its better video quality, will it makes it way into the SiS cores or even partner with other 3rd party chipset makers to make an integrated core? That remains to be seen. Nothing is impossible these days.

In conclusion, I think this fanless graphics chip will win some users for its excellent video playback. Those who uses other OS will be delighted that support for RedHat Linux and SuSe will be ready by December and support for Windows Vista is scheduled for Q3, 2006.
