Sony Ericsson P990i was announced quite some time ago. Most of the readers were asking when will the retail units be available. Today, we take a look at this smartphone which features some of the exciting features that most smartphone users have been waiting for.

P990i is not just another phone but rather a wireless terminal device that serves business users more than the casual and fun users. Although it is meant for the business users, it still has a some of the features inherited from the consumer based products. When we first got the P990i, we noticed the near PDA form factor, with a key flip open design. With the key pad, it works just like a normal phone, making calls and SMS. With the flip opened, it is a full fledge pen based PDA based on the Symbian 9.1 which allows you to add features to your phone. For the busy executives who has tons of name cards to store, the P990i has a Business card scanner allowing you to take a picture and uses the built in OCR to extract the contact information and save it in the phone book.

P990i comes with a 3G/UMTS allowing you to connect to 3G service providers or fall back to GSM900/1800/1900 for wireless connection. With that, there is the video call capability for the busy executives to hold real time face to face conference over the phone using the video call feature. The built in 2 mpixel camera with auto focus takes vivid pictures and can tkae high quality 30fps video to the Memory Stick PRO Duo provided in the kit or store it on the 60MB internal memory.

As the hub for all your information, you can tune in using on FM RDS Radio which allows one to get updates from the local FM Radio stations. Enjoy the coffee and go online using the 802.11b WIFI built in to save you some costs for high speed transfers. You could also use the RSS reader built within the phone to get updates of news from OCWORKBENCH and other news sites like the BBC.
