Cheap DX10 card, Dreams come true

Today, we’ll be looking at the most affordable DirectX 10 hardware on the market – the Geforce 8500GT. The card could be bought on various online retailers for mere 80 USD. Among all other 8500GTs, we choose ECS Geforce 8500GT for this review. The ECS card is factory overclocked to 500/900 while nVidia’s references 8500s are only running at 450/800. Unlike the 8600s, there is only one variant for 8500 and it is the 8500GT. According to nVidia’s specification, the 8500GT has 16 stream processors and 128-bit memory bus. Though from the numbers, the card looks under power and it is the purpose of this review – to see how the card actually performs in various benchmarks. For modern video cards, pipeline width may not tell the whole story sometimes, it is the architecture that affects the card’s performance efficiency. From what we have seen on the big brothers – 8800s, they are fast and very efficient; if the family trait remains, the little 8500GT may prove itself to be one nice little gem for mild gamers.
