Gigabyte GA-MA790FX-DQ6 mainboard is based on AMD RD790 North bridge and SB600 South bridge. With the heatpipe removed, we can clearly see the chipsets on board. From the top left corner of the mainboard, we are able to see the various chipsets, they are TI 1394 controller, Realtel ALC889A audio codec, JMB eSATA controller chip and two PCIe based GbE controller from Realtek. On the left side of the mainboard you can see the external connectors in grey (1394), purple one for eSATA2 and yellow ones are for external USB bracket.

On board are 2 PCI, 4 PCIe full length slots which can be configured to all 8X (for Quad CrossFire) or 2x PCIe x16 (cyan coloured slots for CrossFire). To its right is a PCIe x1 slot. To its right, we can see the uncovered MOSFETs.

At the bottom left corner of the mainboard, we can see the I/O controller chip, the Quad BIOS in the form of SPI BIOS. 4 SATAII ports and 1IDE channel is located near the SB600. Next to it is 4 DIMM slots of DDR2 which can support up to 8 GB of DDR2-1066. The Socket AM2 can support future Phenom processor and HT3.0. Underneath the North and South bridge are heatsinks to cool the chipsets.

The back panel consists of PS/2 Keyboard+mouse ports, Com1, SPDIF Coaxial + Digital out. 1394, 2GbE, 6 USB, 2 ESATA and 7.1ch HDA ports.
