The 4 pillars that makes up the new Centrino Duo and Pro are the processor, chipset, Wireless-N and Intel Turbo memory.

Intel Core 2 Duo Processor

The most important change is the processor FSB on this new processor. instead of running at 667MHz, it is now upped to 800MHz FSB. This improves the memory bandwidth for applications.

The bus frequency can also dynamically step down in speed and voltage enabling the CPU to a new lower power active state called super low frequency mode, resulting in lower power consumption. With Intel® Enhanced Deeper Sleep – Improved CPU and chipset interaction to redirect snoop cycles so the CPU stays in deep C4 state longer, resulting in lower power consumption while idle. The Intel® Dynamic Acceleration improves the performance for single-threaded applications.

Key architectural features of the Intel Core 2 microarchitecture include:
• Intel Wide Dynamic Execution:
• Intel® Intelligent Power Capability
• Intel® Advanced Smart Cache
• Intel® Smart Memory Access
• Intel® Advanced Digital Media Boost
• Intel® 64 – 64-bit headroom in hardware to take advantage of 64-bit operating systems such as Microsoft Vista* and 64-bit applications as they become available for the mobile client.

Mobile Intel® 965 Express Chipset Family

The Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family is the next-generation Intel chipset architecture for notebook PCs using Intel Centrino Duo processor technology. The Mobile Intel 965GM chipset family, compared to previous-generation mobile Intel chipsets, offers new capabilities and greater performance for an outstanding mobile computing experience based on integrated graphics (GM965/GL960) or discrete graphics (PM965).

This new mobile chipset is able to Windows Vista premium Ready and you will be able to enjoy the 3D Flip, Aero Glass effects. On top of that, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 offers an increased graphics core frequency of 500MHz @1.05V (in the GM965 vs. the previous generation chipset with a graphics core frequency of 250MHz) and up to 384MB of video memory. The X3100 inside with Intel® Clear Video Technology, which includes several features – ProcAmp API, high-quality scaling, film mode detection and correction, MPEG2 and WMV9 hardware acceleration, and advanced de-interlacing – all of which enable a premium high-definition video experience. With Clear Video Technology, viewers experience smoother stutter-free high-definition video playback, sharper image quality, customizable color controls and fewer motion artifacts. It offers 3x the score in HQV compared to the 945GM.

Power management features including Intel® DPST (Display Power Savings Technology) 3.0, Intel Display Refresh Rate Switching technology and support for D2PO (Dynamic Display Power Optimization) panels, thus enabling longer battery life.
