Starhub HSPA+ Speed Test Trial Results @ OCWORKBENCH

Speed test Results

This is the latest software that comes with the package. It auto installs from the USB stick - Huawei E1820. After that is done, you can just connect by a click of the mouse. The software also allows you to modify the APN, check statistics, SMS text and a Phone Book.

I tested the device at Starhub Green. Using the netbook, I do a ping to 203.116.1.78 which is Starhub's DNS server. As we can see, the minimum time taken is 45ms and a maximum of 79ms. The average is 67ms. This timing is way better than current HSPA networks which gives an average of 80-90ms. In fact, it has been said that with HSPA+, the ping time should be way lower and closer to just a 2-3x times of the wired connections.

Using the Huawei E1820, we only achieved around 8mbps for downlink using speedtest.sg on the average. As we have another HSPA+ stick, we changed the stick. By using Speedtest.sg, the test is run and we were able to achieve around 11.712Mbps for downlink and 1.575Mbps for uplink speed.

A second try gave us a higher downlink speed at almost 12Mbps for downlink.

Judging by the nature of a trial wireless network, I am quite happy to be able to achieve at least half of the rated speed. The speed might fluctuate if more users are online at the same time.
