Sony demonstrates 3D TV LX900, Internet Video and Widgets
Bluetooth 23 Feb 2010

Experiencing 3D

To view a 3D movie, you would need to pair up the LX900 with a pair of glasses that looks like the picture below. It has a power button which activates it. The glasses is powered by a small lithium battery those found in your pocket calculator. As the spectacle is of only one size, there is a switch within to resize it to fit different audiences. So far, there is no special design for kids.

In the demonstration, 3 titles were play backed, zoo, football and a 3D game. I would say that 3D works best for animation and 3D games. I would still prefer to watch a soccer match in 2D as there is fast motion involved.

Another demonstration is on the widgets and youtube playback on the new BRAVIA series. With the Internet video, you can now watch various video streaming videos direct to your tv screen. In the demonstration, youtube is being used. As we see, the youtube client is not ready to display in 720p or 1080p, youtube videos tends to be pixilated.

Internet Widgets adds another layer of information to the screen giving you access to Yahoo, Flickr etc all without powering up your computer.

Below is a video of the youtube playback.

Overall, the new BRAVIA series is an integration of art and technology. This is especially true for the LX900 as it brings out images in 3 Dimension currently only available in theatres.

Although there are plans by some international tv operators to bring on 3D programming to their customers, it is still not the mainstream as the content is more important than anything else.

At the moment, 3D would still rein in the gaming world where more and more gamers are releasing titles that supports 3D. As for films and broadcasts, that might have to wait.

Lets see what happens in Q3 2010 when this product goes on sale.
