Conclusion of Samsung Ultra Video SGH-F500 review
OCWorkbench team 3 Oct 2007

Conclusion

When Samsung first launched this phone, I was surprised by the quality of video the SGH-F500 is able to reproduce while playing back DIVX on the small screen. Samsung has again made history with the SGH-F500, being the first to incorporate DIVX playback.

Not only that, the SGH-F500 supports HSDPA of up to 1.8Mbps. While most operators are all going for HSDPA, having this device allows quick downloads and video streams of your favorite news channels from your local operator (data charges applies if any). unfortunately, you can't tap the full power of HSDPA as it is restricted to 1.8Mbps. I would predict that the new models would include a HSPA engine supporting up to 7.2Mbps.

I love the large screen for video playback and viewing of picture taken but the internal screen is simply too small. This makes viewing of WAP sites extremely difficult.

In conclusion, the SGH-F500 shows the power of integrating technologies into one fine piece of art. I just hope that in future, they could provide better video output options like component video with HD playback. Well, that is part of my wishful thinking but I think with technology advancement, anything is possible.

* There is a model SGH-F508 which has a Chinese interface for the Greater China market.
