Introduction

At IDF, Intel released more information of the LGA1366 Nehalem Core i7. Today, we take a look at a upcoming board support this new processor.

The board, labeled Gigabyte GA-X58-Extreme is based on the Intel X58 chipset. It supports the upcoming new 1366pins i7 processor.

If you look at the board, it resembles the EP45 Extreme board. It uses a similar a heatpipe design with entry points for water cooling. There are various LEDs on board for overclockers on the system status. You get the Dynamic Energy Saver on this board as well.

The Intel X58 sports the support of triple memory channel DDR3 architecture, allowing more bandwidth for the processor as the memory controller is now built right in the processor itself.

There are also 4 PCIe 2.0 slots which can support CrossFire X technology. Gigabyte just like other manufacturers aren't too keen on the NF200 to support SLI on board. The two blue slots operate at PCIe x 16 while the two orange ones will run electronically at PCIx 8. When all slots are used, all 4 slots will run electronically at PCIe x8. Quad CrossFire is possible on this board.

The backplane of the board comes with the PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard. Optical and Digital S/PDIF out, 1394. CLR CMOS button. 8 USB ports, 2 Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1 ch audio ports.
